ABOUT US
History
Bruce Julian was born with men's clothing in his blood. In fact, you might say the same of the whole Julian clan. The story begins in 1946, when the Julian brothers, Milton and Maurice (father of fashion designer Alexander Julian), opened their first shop in Chapel Hill. Two years later, Milton went out on his own with Milton's Clothing Cupboard, pioneering the Ivy League look throughout the Southeast.
A local icon, Milton remained in his original Chapel Hill location for more than 40 years. Through the 50's and 60's, Milton's Clothing Cupboard expanded to locations in Charlotte, Dallas and Atlanta. Bruce started cooking up marketing schemes at about 14 (like the time he unleashed dozens of turtles marked 'Sale at Milton's' all over the UNC campuses).
In 1977, Milton invited Bruce to open his own store in Charlotte. Since that time, Milton's has been recognized as one of Charlotte's most outstanding speciality retailers, both for its stylish, high-quality merchandise and its uniquely entertaining atmosphere.
2001 saw the launch of a new phase for the company. Now known as Bruce Julian Clothier, the store recently opened a luxurious, expanded new space in the Aboretum Shopping Center. With the same great brands and dedicated service you've come to expect from Bruce Julian, now there is even more in-store fun to be had. As Bruce Julian Clothier, the future looks bright.
